A luxury condo developer in Welland, Ontario, Evertrust Developments, has experienced a second collapse at their construction site within eight days, resulting in partial structural damage to a south tower. This incident follows an initial report to the Ministry of Labour on February 18. Despite awaiting approval from the Ministry to commence repairs, further damage occurred on Sunday in the same area. Fortunately, the remainder of the building remains intact, and no injuries were reported.
The Upper Vista Welland project, valued at $55 million, comprises a canal-front condominium with 200 units in a five-storey building on Prince Charles Drive. Concerned residents alerted Welland Fire Services after hearing disturbances and witnessing additional fragments detach from the damaged area.
Due to ministry orders, workers have been unable to access the site to assess the damage and resume work. Evertrust has proactively positioned construction machinery on-site in anticipation of remediation once permitted. The developer has informed buyers of the situation but has not disclosed potential project delays.
The Ministry of Labour has been contacted for updates on the latest collapse, following previous inspections and issued orders last week. However, the ministry has not yet responded to inquiries from Global News.
