Here are key moments from the total solar eclipse in Ontario

Hundreds of people in Ontario observed the total solar eclipse on Monday, a rare event not expected to recur for another 120 years. Here are some standout moments from the day:

  1. Niagara Falls Sets Guinness World Record: During the eclipse, the City of Niagara Falls broke the Guinness World Record for the "largest gathering of people dressed as the sun" with 309 participants sporting themed outfits on a Niagara City Cruise.

  2. Clear Skies in Toronto After Eclipse Peaked: Clouds obscured the sun during the eclipse's peak, but skies cleared soon after, allowing skywatchers in Toronto to witness the event more clearly.

  3. Mayor Olivia Chow Hosts Viewing Party: Mayor Olivia Chow joined over 900 children at a solar eclipse viewing party at Downsview Airport in North York. Indigenous speakers shared the significance of eclipses in First Nations culture.

  4. Wolves' Reactions at Toronto Zoo: At the Toronto Zoo, visitors observed animal reactions during the eclipse. While polar bears remained unaffected, wolves were seen frolicking and exhibiting heightened activity.

The eclipse began around 2 p.m., peaked at 3:19 p.m., and concluded by 4:30 p.m. The next total solar eclipse visible in Ontario will occur in 2144.
