Consuming alcohol is now permitted in certain parks in Toronto according to official regulations.

Toronto has recently announced the permanent allowance of alcohol consumption for adults aged 19 and older in selected public parks, following a successful pilot program. This decision was based on positive feedback received from park visitors during the pilot phase. According to survey results from the pilot program, 92% of park visitors reported satisfaction, 90% felt safe, and 88% noted that those consuming alcohol were considerate.

The city took a cautious and strategic approach, learning from the experiences of other Canadian municipalities. A majority of residents (46%) supported allowing alcohol in parks, as revealed by a public opinion survey, which led city staff to recommend transitioning 27 pilot parks into permanent alcohol-friendly locations.

During the council meeting, motions were passed to expand the program to additional parks, while attempts to exclude parks from alcohol consumption were unsuccessful. Each ward will now have at least one designated park for alcohol consumption, chosen based on specific criteria and local councilor support.

The success of the program will be closely monitored with ongoing updates to address any issues that arise in alcohol-permitted parks across Toronto. Below is a list of the 27 parks where alcohol consumption is now permanently allowed.
